Healthy Streets™ approved strategic planning map to identify priorities for improvements in active travel infrastructure.

An expert-designed strategic planning map that scores every street for active travel provision and quality. This is a joint project by Healthy Streets, Tranquil City and University College London.

Healthy Streets™ is an evidence-based approach to creating fairer, sustainable and attractive urban spaces created by public health expert Lucy Saunders.

We work with Healthy Streets to systematically gather, analyse, map and combine various spatial datasets that represent the Healthy Streets™ Indicators to produce city-wide and/or regional street network scores. Alongside environmental quality measures, the index includes innovative datasets such as pavement space and walkability scores developed by experts from University College London’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) and the Bartlett School of Architecture.

The Healthy Streets Index helps urban and transport planners prioritise infrastructure improvements that can improve the experience of urban street environments. We want to make active journeys safer, healthier and more attractive.

By commissioning the Healthy Streets Index in your town or city, you will get:

  • Expert-designed spatial dataset that scores every street in a region or city for its performance against Healthy Streets
  • An interactive viewer and high-quality maps that can be shared with stakeholders and the public
  • Insights into priority areas for improvements
